A stitch-in hair weave, know as a sew-in, is a way women add length, texture, or thickness to their natural hair. A sew-in weave is versatile, allowing you to wear your hair in different styles. You can save an expensive trip to the hair salon by styling your hair at home.

Step 1

Part a small section at the top center of your hair. Place the parted hair in a rubber band; this hair will be used to cover the hair extensions when the sew-in is complete.

Step 2

Braid the hair. The hair should be braided starting from the front of the hairline to the nape of the neck. The braids need to be as flat as possible and small in width. If the hair is long, take the ends of the hair and braid them into an individual braid. Use the needle and thread to stitch the individual braid to the bottom braided hair. When the braid is stitched, tie the thread in a knot and cut the remaining thread.

Step 3

Sew-in rows of hair weave. If the length of the hair weave is different, start with the longer length and leave the shorter length for the top of the head. If the hair length is the same, you can cut the hair to shape your face at the end of the sew-in application. Measure and cut the weave from ear to ear. To thread the needle, bring the thread into the loop of the needle, then tie the ends of the thread into a knot. Starting at the nape of the neck, begin sewing the hair into your head by pushing the needle through the weft of the weave and sewing it onto your braids. At the end of each piece of hair weave, cut the thread off of the needle and tie it into a knot and cut the remainding thread. Continue this method until every braid is covered.

Step 4

Cover the hair weave with your natural hair. Part your natural hair in the middle. Comb your hair over the hair weave. To blend your natural hair with the hair weave, use flat irons or a straightening comb.
